By World War II, Vulcan's air/steam hammer line dominated its production and revenue stream. Of all of the attempts Vulcan made to diversify is pile hammer line after that time, probably the most successful was its line of vibratory pile hammers.

Vibratory pile driving equipment represented a major departure for Vulcan, but it also represents an interesting technology in its own right. In addition to recounting Vulcan's experience, we have a wide variety of items on vibratory technology in general:

• General information on vibratory technology, including technical articles and monographs.
  • Sand and wick drains. An interesting application of vibratory hammers, in addition to being an imporant problem in geotechnical engineering.
• Vulcan/Uraga Vulcor Vibratory Hammer. Vulcan's first foray into vibratory hammers.
• Vulcan's medium frequency vibratory hammers. The mainstay of the line (Vulcan's and just about everybody else's.)
• Vulcan's high frequency vibratory hammers. Vulcan was the first North American manufacturer to produce a high frequency vibratory hammer.
• Reciprocating vibratory and impact-vibration hammers. A foray into a different way to vibrate and impact piles.
• Vulcan Field Service Manual for its vibratory hammers. Available for download here is the last field service manual Vulcan issued for the vibratory hammers, Bulletin 177G dated June 1998. It covers the "A" series of hammers. Care, however, should be exercised when applying this information to any specific hammer. The document itself is in pdf format. Due to the age of the data files, some of the graphics and text layout leave something to be desired of, but the information is there.
